Q. Why “Heels Geek”?

A: This is a geeky blog. Some of what we do here seeks to discuss Carolina basketball in an objective fashion. We fans, as a group, tend to be an emotional bunch — to make spot judgments, to talk in platitudes, to think we know more than we actually do. Heels Geek is a response to that M.O., a blog for stats nerds. But you’ll get a lot of subjectivity and emotion and long essays and such, too. Would be hard to be a Carolina fan without that stuff.

Q: What are these statistics you speak of?

A: This is written in an NBA context but is otherwise a good primer on many of the statistics used here. Figures cited here, unless otherwise stated, come from the amazing work of Ken Pomeroy.

Q. Do you write about Carolina football or other sports?

A: No.
